The Summer of Discontent

Most of the plot points that have been dragging on all summer finally come to a resolution.

Finally, the plot points come to a resolution after dragging them on and on for weeks on end. It seems this episode was meant as a season finale episode, but perhaps some budgeting or other issues split it up oddly. The next episode will jump right to the beginning of the school year and the summer will be bypassed completely. Interesting.

Marriage and Paternity

The one plot point that didn't seem to wrap up into a nice little bow is the paternity of Anne's baby. With the entire town suspicious of George actually being the father, it is a wonder Anne hasn't caught wind of it and confronted George herself. Reality, clearly, was never Brenda Hampton's forte, so Anne has decided to marry Tom-Hanks-a-like after he ambushed her with a "Let's meet the parents!". Still in the dark about George's possible non-vasectomy, Anne served him the divorce papers despite his second thoughts.

Betty the Internet Prostitute

The reveal of Betty's former career as a Lady of the Night to her future hubby turned out to be anti-climactic. It is a shame since they built up to the moment over and over again. It seems Sausage King actually knew about her former occupation and is fine with it. In fact, he loves her no matter what. He's smiling for the first time since his wife died and he doesn't care one iota about the fact that he's going to marry a former call girl. Interesting.

Kind Of Sweet

Grace's decision to go to a medical school intensive program and her friends' efforts to help her feel better after the death of her father seemed to be, well, kind of sweet. Surprisingly, Brenda's writers didn't screw this one up with mindless cliches and overly saccharine dialogue. And the moment Jack and Grace shared where he commented on finally seeing her smile for the first time in months was kind of endearing. Kudos, Brenda. KU-dos.

Amy and Ben

Amy and Ben's relationship seems to be hanging by a thread. But who can really blame the guy? Amy's perma-bitchy mode while this guy bends over backwards for her has got to be rather annoying, even if Ben is only a character. Ben left for Bologna on a rather sour note with Amy, awkwardly accusing her of infidelity since she appeared to be alone with Ricky. But at least he has an excuse to keep her home: she's got to finish 3 classes over summer in order to move up to the grade. In the previews for next episode, it appears they'll break up. Finally. Now if they could only write Amy off the show.
